As a broken rear axel on the van has delayed my windsurfing progress, I’m going to run some of Politic’s recent motorcycle rides around Salt Lake City this spring and early summer. The obvious heat and intense sun seem so foreign up here in the rain. If your looking for something a little more in line with this blogs usual topics check out Guilia Monego’s pictures and stories from skiing in Bolivia along with a fantastic line of Huyana Potosi.

Utah Update + Twixtor Test

Lots of Memorial Day action, but so far I have very little to show for it. Fortunately Politics has begun sending me some highlights from this past season in the Wasatch. I’ve also been experimenting with Twixtor to so the new footage to play with was much appreciated.

The Activities and Buisnesses of Friends Elsewhere

Down in Utah, occasional contributor to the site Jason has been trying to launch a line of Shift Grindplates that would allow Skiers to further imitate rollerblading by opening up the possibility of soul grinds and other nifty rail tricks on skis. That’s Jason with the early 90s’s Makio in the video above. And since this is a rare intrusion of rail slides into what is usually a terrain park free zone, I’ll make up for it by posting Jason’s line down Clayton’s Peak at Brighton bellow. And with the sun shinning on some fresh snow I’m about to sneak out of work for some afternoon turns, later!

The recent period of plenty (sunshine and powder) has left me with a Michigan ski area sized pile of work to get through. So I’ve got nothing to post, nor will I over the next couple of days, and Wilson is far too busy watching reality shows focused on either rehab, intervention or pawn shops to produce anything of interest on his own. Luckily for all of you Stinsmania sent up some footage from Utah of himself and Pete Proos to provide you dear readers with some content.

Utah Update

Wilson just arrived with tales of the various happenings in Zion, and Mania passed these clips along earlier this week, enjoy the long overdue Utah update. Despite Alaskans collectively behaving like disappointed toddlers over some less than stellar conditions we’ll be getting after it soon.

I’m back in Alaska, having learned that sometimes airline incompetence can work in my favor. Some light flurries in Minnesota caught Delta with their pants down resulting in lengthy delays and a missed connection, which worked out great, as I got to spend a 22 hours in Utah catching up with friends, and flew first class the rest of the way. Everyone seemed to be doing great (except Wilson who needs an intervention) despite being a few years older and wiser. There was lots of talk about both the recently relaxed liquor laws (Politics and I even visited the new state liquor store, pictured above and here) and the LDS church fighting back by hoarding downtown real estate in order to limit the number of bars.
The major news from my brief visit was the addition of snowmobiles, dirt bikes and motor cycles to the old routine. Mania, bought the sled pictured above an hour before driving me to the airport and Nate now blames a declining golf game on his dirt bike. Politics, Mania, and Tom are all riding motorcycles. So, the brief unplanned appearance in Utah went well, now I just need a little skiing to complete the cycle.
